I’m so excited to finally share with you some photos from Lucas’ 50’s Diner themed party. There’s a lot of party details I want to share so I decided to do this in two parts (…or three…or four! Haha!) I’m starting with one of my favorite elements, our DIY dessert bar. This usually takes up most of our time in our party preps, and more so now since it also doubled as our stage area/backdrop. It turned out quite nicely, if I may say. : )
I’ll stop myself from writing even longer and let all the pictures do the talking.
Elaborate themed cakes seem to be the fad these days, but we opted for a simple white cake with minor details so it can blend well with all the other elements of the dessert buffet. Don’t be fooled by its simplicity though, this cake is sooo yummy! Just looking at that buttercream frosting makes me want to have some cake right now!
We served some diner-inspired treats for everyone to enjoy and this bacon and hotcake skewers is just one of them! We also had cupcakes made to look like diner staples like sundaes, milkshakes and burgers. I paired it with some mini french fries (aka Piknik) and voila, I had the ultimate burger and fries comfort food.
We had fun with the treat names too, all of which were based on 50s classic songs. Some of my favorites were “Great Balls of Fire Gum” and “Sugar Pie Cookie, Honey Bunch” and “Ain’t Nothing but a Hound-dog Burger,” which, of course, was really just a cupcake!
Except for the sweets, the things on display were just items we had around the house. The backdrops were pieces of plywood covered with cloth to match the theme, while the Lucas’ Diner sign was made of tarpaulin pasted on styrofoam for a bit of a 3D effect. We must’ve spent just a little below Php 2,000 for the backdrop. Quite happy with that considering backdrops of this size made completely from styrofoam (which is uso nowadays) will cost you around Php 5,000 at minimum. Plus, of course, we get to DIY if we do it this way (and save the earth too!)
Here’s where we got our treats for our DIY dessert bar:
- Cake and themed cupcakes from Bite Me
- Themed sugar cookies, “burger” cupcake and regular cupcakes from Ianne’s Sugarcraft
- Hotcake skewers from Queensland Catering
- Gumballs, candies, gummies, “mini fries” from the supermarket
Drop by again soon to see more details from our 50’s Diner Party.

OMG this is gorgeous!!! I loooove DIY and this one is climbing at the charts. Will definitely do the plywood thing as a backdrop. This is so perfect for me. I am already crazy right now because my 3 kids have the same birth month which is June. The oldest will turn 7, the second will turn 5, and the third will turn 1. Nakakaloka diba! Actually hindi ko pa alam ang gagawin ko =( All were still ideas. Good job Mommy Monica!

I super love the colors! My daughter’s first birthday was Dr. Seuss themed, kinda like this but had a blue in it, too. Saya!
