One of the first DIY party projects I featured in the Homemade Parties Instagram feed was of Nica’s hand-drawn paper hats for her daughter’s birthday party. Not only did she make party hats, she also made buntings to match…and yes, also hand-drawn! I’ve been a fan ever since and I was itching to feature one of her parties in the blog. I love how she and her family stay true to the meaning of homemade parties, a small gathering of family and friends, filled with little craft projects made with love. And this Donut Party for baby girl Emma is a classic example. Who needs cupcakes when you’ve got donuts? Lots and lots of donuts!
The decors were made by mommy Nica of course and the decor-making became mini arts and crafts sessions with her little girls. Leftovers from past craft projects and homemade parties were all she needed to create these adorable pieces. Take for example those funky donut masks that were made from used cardboards and embellished with foam sheets. Such a simple party detail to have but one that your guests will surely enjoy!
The cake was also DIY! They ordered a plain rum cake and topped it with some white icing and sprinkles to make it look like a huge donut! Ohh, and I love how the “Eat Me” and “Happy Birthday” printables were just of mommy’s handwriting. If I can write that pretty, I’d be handwriting quotes all day long!
Oh would you just look at that big smile on the birthday girl’s face (and daddy’s too!) Happy birthday Emma!
Here’s a list of suppliers from Emma’s Donut Party:

That is just too cute for words! I want to DIY the next party we’ll have for our boys, but for me, it really takes some time to prepare and I have to consider how much mess they’re going to make, haha. Sometimes, treating their friends at Shakey’s seem to be a better option.
